LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
75th Regular Session
May 9, 1997
TO: Honorable Eddie Lucio, Jr., Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 2203, As Engrossed
Committee on Intergovernmental Relations By: Bosse
Senate
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB2203 ( Relating
to a requirement that a municipality maintain a public record
of its extraterritorial jurisdiction.) this office has detemined
the following:
Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB2203-As Engrossed
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would require all municipalities to prepare and maintain
maps of their extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
This
bill is not expected to have a significant impact on larger
municipalities (over 50,000 population), since most such cities
currently maintain maps of their ETJs. For larger municipalities
that currently do not maintain a map of their ETJ, such mapping
requirements are not expected to have a significant impact relative
to such municipalities' overall budget.
This bill could have
a significant fiscal impact on smaller cities that currently
do not maintain maps of their ETJs. For example, the City of
Mason (population 2,000) does not currently have a map of its
ETJ and estimates the initial cost of such a map at $600 to
$1,000, plus additional annual costs associated with maintaining
the map.
