LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session March 31, 1997 TO: Honorable Rene Oliveira, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 2400 Committee on Economic Development By: Garcia House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB2400 ( Relating to family and medical leave for certain employees; providing a civil penalty.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB2400-As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. This bill provides for family and medical leave for certain employees and applies to all employers in the state who employ 50 or more employees. Under this bill, employers would be required to provide up to twelve workweeks of leave to eligible employees. This legislation is very similar to the federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. This bill, however, does not establish provisions an employee's length of employment for eligibility. The Workforce Commission is authorized to investigate any violations of provisions in this bill. Any costs incurred would be the result of these investigations. No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
