LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session May 7, 1997 TO: Honorable Bill Ratliff, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 2411, As Engrossed Committee on Finance By: Coleman Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB2411 ( relating to student center fees at the Texas Southern University) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB2411-As Engrossed No fiscal impact to the State is anticipated. The bill would authorize the Board of Regents of Texas Southern University to increase the student center fee charged to students to finance, operate, maintain and improve a student center. The fee could not exceed $35 for each semester of the long session and could not exceed $17.50 for each summer session. The fee could not be increased by more than 10 percent in any academic year without approval by a majority vote of the students voting in a general student election called for this purpose or a majority of the student government. If it is approved by the students, Texas Southern intends to charge the maximum fee beginning in fiscal year 1998. It is estimated that the student center fee increase would generate approximately $ 617,000 in institutional funds each year. These fees are auxiliary in nature and do not affect the state supported educational and general operations of the university. No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
