LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session April 9, 1997 TO: Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 2779 Committee on Judicial Affairs By: Junell House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB2779 ( Relating to requiring the office of the attorney general to defend local community supervision and corrections departments in certain suits brought against them.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB2779-As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Government Code to require the Office of the Attorney General to defend local community supervision and corrections departments in certain suits brought against them which is not covered by an indemnification policy, except any action brought by the state or another political subdivision. The bill would take effect September 1, 1997. The Office of the Attorney General anticipates that any legal work as a result of the passage of the bill could be reasonably absorbed with current staff. The bill would result in some cost savings to county attorney offices which currently handle these types of cases. Source: Agencies: 302 Office of the Attorney General LBB Staff: JK ,PE ,JC
