          House
          Austin, Texas

         FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on SB174 ( Relating
to a fee collected by a prosecutor for collecting and processing
a dishonored or forged check or similar sight order.) this office
has detemined the following:

Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by SB174-As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would raise the maximum fee that a county may collect
for a dishonored or forged check with a face amount under $10
from $5 to $10.

Three counties were contacted to obtain estimates
on the fiscal impact of this bill. A county whose population
is approximately 200,000 would experience increased revenues
of $5,200 to $7,800; a county whose population is approximately
600,000 would experience increased revenues of approximately
$11,600; and a county whose population is approximately 2,800,000
would experience increased revenues of $9,600 to $11,100.
