LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 3, 1997 TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 174 Committee on Criminal Justice By: Brown Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on SB174 ( Relating to a fee collected by a prosecutor for collecting and processing a dishonored or forged check or similar sight order.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by SB174-As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would raise the maximum fee that a county may collect for a dishonored or forged check with a face amount under $10 from $5 to $10. Three counties were contacted to obtain estimates on the fiscal impact of this bill. A county whose population is approximately 200,000 would experience increased revenues of $5,200 to $7,800; a county whose population is approximately 600,000 would experience increased revenues of approximately $11,600; and a county whose population is approximately 2,800,000 would experience increased revenues of $9,600 to $11,100.
