LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 24, 1997 TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 324 Committee on Criminal Justice By: Armbrister Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on SB324 ( Relating to application of the professional prosecutors law to the district attorney of the 24th Judicial District.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by SB324-As Introduced Implementing the provisions of the bill would result in a net positive impact of $72,708 to General Revenue Related Funds through the biennium ending August 31, 1999. The bill would remove the district attorney of the 24th Judicial District from the Professional Prosecutors Act, permitting the district attorney to have a private practice of law. The provisions of the bill are effective when the bill is passed. Fiscal Analysis Removing the D.A. from the Professional Prosecutors Act will save approximately $8,078 in FY 97 and $32,315 annually thereafter. Methodolgy There would be a savings to the state due to the higher pay level of the district attorneys in the Professional Prosecutors Act.
