LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session March 3, 1997 TO: Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 345 Committee on Jurisprudence By: Harris Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on SB345 ( Relating to the requirement that the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services perform investigations regarding children born addicted to certain substances.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by SB345-As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend Chapter 161 of the Family Code to authorize the court to order termination of the parent-child relationship upon finding that the parent has caused a child to be born addicted to alcohol or a controlled substance. It would also expand the definition of child abuse to include causing a child to be born addicted to alcohol or a controlled substance.
