LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session March 18, 1997 TO: Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 345, Committee Report 1st House, Substituted Committee on Jurisprudence By: Harris Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on SB345 ( Relating to suits and investigations concerning the parent-child relationship that involve children born addicted to certain substances.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by SB345-Committee Report 1st House, Substituted No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend Chapter 161 of the Family Code to authorize the court to order termination of the parent-child relationship upon finding that the parent has caused a child to be born addicted to alcohol or a controlled substance. It would also expand the definition of child abuse to include causing a child to be born addicted to alcohol or a controlled substance.
