FISCAL NOTE
75th Regular Session
April 19, 1997
TO: Honorable Eddie Lucio, Jr., Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 1455
Committee on Intergovernmental Relations By: Lucio
Senate
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on SB1455 ( Relating
to the ability of voters in certain counties to petition a commissioners
court to increase the salary of members of the county sheriff's
department.) this office has detemined the following:
Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by SB1455-As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would apply to counties with populations between 25,000
and 30,000 the provision which currently gives voters of a county
with a population greater than 30,000 the right to petition
the commissioners court for an increase in the minimum salary
of each member of the sheriff's department. This bill could
result in increased payroll and benefits costs in counties where
the voters petitioned for such an increase in salaries. Such
costs would depend on the level of increase recommended in a
petition.
