         Pursuant to a notice posted on January 30, 1997, the House Committee on Agriculture & Livestock met in a 
         public hearing and was called to order by the Chair, Representative Pete Patterson at 8:04 am.
         
         The roll was answered as follows:
         
         Present:  Representatives Patterson; Cook; Flores; Hupp; Rabuck; Roman (6).
         
         Absent:   Representatives Swinford; Oakley; Turner, Bob (3).
         
         A quorum was present.
         
         The Chair offered opening comments, introduced committee staff, and presented an overview of committee 
         procedure. 
         
         Representatives Swinford and Turner now present.
         
         The Chair recognized the following people to testify on behalf of their agency:
         
         Dr. James G. Butler, Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Affairs, Texas Agricultural Experiment Station.
         
         Dr. Zerle L. Carpenter, Director, Texas Agricultural Extension Service.
         
         Mr. Gary L. Nunley, State Director, Texas Animal Damage Control Service.
         
         Mr. James B. Hull, Director, Texas Forest Service.
         
         Rep. Rabuck now in as Chair.
         
         Dr. A.K. (Konrad) Eugster, Executive Director, Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
         
         At 9:15 am, on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned.
