         Pursuant to a notice posted on May 27, 1998, the House  
         Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Funding Texas  
         Courts met in a public hearing and was called to order by the  
         Chair, Representative Eiland  at 9:25 am. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:   
          
         Present:  Representatives Cuellar; Eiland; Gallego; Heflin;  
                   Tillery (5). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Hinojosa; Moreno; Pitts; Turner,  
                   Sylvester; (4). 
          
          A quorum was present 
          
         Testimony was taken from the Legislative Budget Board on block  
         grants and SB 1417. 
          
         Testimony was taken from Chief Justice of the Supreme Court  
         Tom Phillips, and Presiding Judge of the Court of Criminal  
         Appeals on the state of the judiciary. 
          
         Testimony was taken from the Office of Court Administration on  
         the status of other legislative committees researching similar  
         topics. 
          
         At 11:30 am, on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
