         Pursuant to a notice posted on January 23, 1997, the House 
         Committee on Corrections met jointly with House Committees on 
         Appropriations, Criminal Jurisprudence, Juvenile Justice and 
         Family Issues in a public hearing and was called to order by the 
         Chair, Representative Allen Hightower at 8:07 am.
         
         The roll was answered as follows:  
         
         Present:  Representatives Hightower; Alexander; Farrar; Hupp; 
                   Marchant; Serna (6).
         
         Absent:   Representatives Allen; Edwards; Gray (3).
         
         A quorum was present.
         
         The House Committees on Appropriations, Criminal Jurisprudence, 
         and Juvenile Justice and Family Issues were called to order and 
         took roll.
         
         Governor's Budget Proposal
         
         Testimony was taken.  See attached witness list.
         
         (Representatives Allen; Edwards; and Gray now present.)  
         
         Representative Junell (House Appropriations) moved to stand at 
         ease for 5 minutes.
         
         The House Committee on Corrections was reconvened.

         On the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting 
         was recessed until January 29, 1997 at 10:00 am or upon 
         adjournment.
         
         The Committee on Corrections reconvened at 11:14 am and was 
         called to order.
         
         The roll was answered as follows:  
         
         Present:  Representatives Hightower; Allen; Alexander; Farrar; 
                   Gray; Hupp; Marchant; Serna (8).
         
         Absent:   Representative Edwards (1).
