         Pursuant to a notice posted on August 19, 1998, the House  
         Committee on Corrections, Subcommittee on County and Private  
         Jails met in a joint public hearing with the House Committee  
         on County Affairs, and was called to order by the Chair,  
         Representative Allen Hightower at 1:14 pm. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:   
          
         Present:  Representatives Hightower; Alexander; Farrar (3). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Edwards; Gray (2). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         (Representative Gray now present.)   
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         At 2:42 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
