         Pursuant to a notice posted on June 9, 1998, the House  
         Committee on Higher Education met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the Chair, Representative Irma Rangel at  
         12:14 pm. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:

              Conduct active oversight of agencies under the  
         committee's jurisdiction. 
          
         At 4:58 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,
