         Pursuant to a notice posted on September 25, 1998, the House  
         Committee on Higher Education met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the Chair, Representative Irma Rangel at  
         10:10 am. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:   
          
         Present:  Representatives Rangel; Solis; Cuellar; Dunnam;  
                   Uresti (5). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Bailey; Kamel; Rabuck; Reyna, (4). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         The committee met to adopt the Higher Education Committee's  
         Interim Report to be submitted to Speaker James E. "Pete"  
         Laney. 
          
         The interim report was adopted. 
          
         At 10:42 am, on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
