         Pursuant to a suspension of the 5-day posting rule on May 20,  
         1997, the House Committee on Insurance met in a public hearing  
         and was called to order by the Chair, Representative John  
         Smithee at 12:20 pm. 
          
         Pursuant to a suspension of the 5-day posting rule, SB 1446,  
         1565, 1894, 1896, and 1897 were placed on the posting. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:

                   Bonnen; Eiland; Lewis, Glenn; Olivo; Wise (8). 
          
         Absent:   Representative Burnam (1). 
          
         A quorum was present.

         The chair laid out SB 1896.   
          
         The chair recognized Representative Counts to explain the  
         measure.   
          
         Testimony was taken.   
          
         Representative Lewis, Glenn moved that SB 1896 be reported  
         favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do  
         pass and be printed.  The motion failed by the following vote:   
          
         Ayes:          Representatives Lewis, Glenn; Olivo (2). 
          
         Nays:          Representatives Smithee; Averitt; Bonnen;  
                        Eiland (4). 
          
         Present not Voting:      None (0). 
          
         Absent:        Representatives Van de Putte; Burnam; Wise (3). 
          
         SB 1897 
          
         The chair laid out SB 1897.   
         The chair recognized Representative Counts to explain the  
         measure.   
          
         Testimony was taken.   
          
         Representative Averitt moved that SB 1897 be reported  
         favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do  
         pass and be printed.  The motion prevailed by the following  
         vote:   
          
         Ayes:          Representatives Smithee; Van de Putte; Averitt;  
                        Bonnen; Eiland; Lewis, Glenn; Olivo; Wise (8). 
          
         Nays:          None (0). 
          
         Present not Voting:      None (0). 
          
         Absent:        Representative Burnam (1). 
          
         At 12:40 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
