House Committee on Judicial Affairs

         Pursuant to a notice posted on February 19, 1997, the House 
         Committee on Judicial Affairs met in a public hearing and was 
         called to order by the Chair, Representative Senfronia Thompson 
         at 1:40 pm.
         
         The roll was answered as follows:  
         
         Present:  Representatives Thompson; Hartnett; Clark; Crabb; 
                   Garcia; Luna, Vilma (6).
         
         Absent:   Representatives Shields; Solis; Zbranek (3).
         
         A quorum was present.
         
         The Chair of the Committee on Judicial Affairs, the Chair of the 
         Committee on Civil Practices and the Chair of the Senate 
         Jurisprudence Committee recognized Chief Justice Tom Phillips to 
         present the State of the Judiciary Address.
         
         (Representative Zbranek now present.)  
         
         (Representative Solis now present.)
           
         Testimony was taken.
           
         The Chair moved to include the Chief Justice written testimony 
         of the State of the Judiciary Address for the record.  There 
         were no objections.
         
         The Chair moved that the Committee on Judicial Affairs stand 
         adjourn.  There being no objection, the Committee on Judicial
