Pursuant to a notice posted on April 15, 1997 at 11:06 am, the
House Committee on Judicial Affairs met in a formal meeting
and was called to order by the Chair, Representative Senfronia
Thompson at 5:07 pm.
The roll was answered as follows:
Present: Representatives Thompson; Hartnett; Clark; Crabb;
Luna, Vilma; Shields; Solis (7).
Absent: Representatives Garcia; Zbranek (2).
A quorum was present.
HB 1682 by Rep. Thompson
The chair recalled HB 1682 from subcommittee.
The chair laid out HB 1682 and explained.
The chair offered, laid out and explained CSHB 1682.
The chair offered, laid out and explained an amendment to CSHB
1682.
The chair moved adoption of the amendment. There were no
objections.
The chair directed the committee staff, with the consent of
the committee, to draft a new committee substitute
incorporating the adopted amendment.
The chair moved adoption of the new CSHB 1682. There were no
objections.
Representative Solis moved that HB 1682, as substituted, be
reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation
that it do pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the
following vote:
Ayes: Representatives Thompson; Hartnett; Clark;
Crabb; Luna, Vilma; Shields; Solis (7).
Nays: None (0).
Present not Voting: None (0).
Absent: Representatives Garcia; Zbranek (2).
SB 1173 by Sen. Duncan (Clark) and SJR 36 by Sen. Duncan
(Clark)
The chair laid out SB 1173 and SJR 36 and recognized Rep.
Clark to explain.
Representative Crabb moved that SB 1173 be reported favorably
to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and
be printed. The motion prevailed by the following vote:
Ayes: Representatives Thompson; Hartnett; Clark;
Crabb; Luna, Vilma; Shields; Solis . (7).
Nays: None (0).
Present not Voting: None (0).
Absent: Representatives Garcia; Zbranek (2).
Representative Crabb moved that SJR 36 be reported favorably
to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and
be printed. The motion prevailed by the following vote:

Crabb; Luna, Vilma; Shields; Solis . (7).
Nays: None (0).
Present not Voting: None (0).
Absent: Representatives Garcia; Zbranek (2).
There being no further business, the chair moved that the
committee stand adjourned. There being no objection, the
Committee on Judicial Affairs adjourned at 5:15 pm.
