Pursuant to a notice posted on May 20, 1997, the House
Committee on Public Education met in a formal meeting and was
called to order by the Chair, Representative Paul Sadler at
12:15 pm.
The roll was answered as follows:

Absent: Representative Williamson (1).
A quorum was present.
SB 583
The chair laid out SB 583 as pending business.
Representative Culberson offered a complete committee
substitute.
The committee substitute was adopted without objection.
Representative Culberson moved that SB 583, as substituted, be
reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation
that it do pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the
following vote:
Ayes: Representatives Sadler; Dutton; Culberson;
Hernandez; Hochberg; Price; Rhodes; Uher (8).
