            Pursuant to a notice posted on May 7, 1998, the House  
            Committee on Public Health met in a joint public hearing  
            with the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate  
            Interim Committee on Children's Health Insurance (CHIP) and  
            was called to order by the Chair, Representative John  
            Hirschi at 9:45 a.m. 
             
            The roll was answered as follows:   
             
            Present:  Representatives Hirschi; Capelo; Coleman; Delisi;  
                      Glaze; Janek; Maxey; Uresti (8). 
             
            Absent:   Representative Davila (1). 
             
            A quorum was present. 
             
            The committee recessed at 12:15 p.m., subject to the call  
            of the chair. 
             
            The committee re-convened at 1:30 p.m., subject to the call  
            of the chair. 
             
            The committee took testimony on the following interim  
            charge: (see attached witness list) 
             
                 Monitor the implementation of H.B. 3 (Texas Healthy  
                 Kids Corporation), and study the provisions of the  
                 federal Balanced Budget Act that relate to children's  
                 health. 
             
            At 4:40 p.m., upon a motion by Representative Heflin and  
            without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the  
            call of the chair.
