         Pursuant to an announcement from the House floor and a  
         suspension of the House Rules to allow the committee to meet  
         while the house was in session on May 23, 1997, the House  
         Committee on Revenue & Public Education Funding, Select met in  
         a formal meeting and was called to order by the Vice Chair,  
         Representative Paul Hilbert at 10:05 pm. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:   
          
         Present:  Representatives Chisum; Hilbert; Brimer; Hochberg;  
                   Stiles; Wilson (6). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Sadler; Craddick; Hernandez; Junell;  
                   Williamson (5). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         SB 1873 
          
         The chair laid out SB 1873.   
          
         Representative Hochberg offered a complete committee  
         substitute.   
          
         The committee substitute was adopted without objection. 
          
         Representative Hochberg moved that SB 1873, as substituted, be  
         reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation  
         that it do pass and be printed.  The motion prevailed by the  
         following vote:   
          
         Ayes:          Representatives Chisum; Hilbert; Brimer;  
                        Hochberg; Stiles; Wilson (6). 
          
         Nays:          None (0). 
          
         Present not Voting:      None (0). 
          
         Absent:        Representatives Sadler; Craddick; Hernandez;  
                        Junell; Williamson (5). 
          
         At 10:10 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned.
