MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE Subcommittee on Articles II and VIII Agencies Wednesday, January 21, 1998 9:00 a.m. Capitol Extension, Room E1.036 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim Finance Subcommittee on Articles II and VIII Agencies was held on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Jane Nelson, Chair Senator Truan Senator Royce West ***** After standing in recess on January 20, 1998, Chairwoman Nelson called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. to transact the following business: The following members arrived after the roll was called: none. Chairwoman Nelson announced that bad weather had prohibited Senator Truan's airplane from landing in Austin; therefore he would be unable to attend the hearing. The Chair called on representatives from Article VIII agencies to provide testimony on committee charges and answer questions of the committee. Invited witnesses appeared as follows: Jack Abla, representing the Workers' Compensation Commission, provided oral testimony. Robert Marquette, representing the Workers' Compensation Commission, provided oral testimony. June Karp, representing the Research and Oversight Council on Workers' Compensation, provided oral testimony. Charles Barnett, representing the Research and Oversight Council on Workers' Compensation, registered as a resource witness but did not testify. Sherry Lee, representing the Board of Examiners of Psychologists, provided oral testimony. Jennifer Noack, representing the Board of Examiners of Psychologists, provided oral testimony. Catherine Ghiglieri, representing the Finance Commission and Department of Banking, provided oral testimony. Leslie Pettijohn, representing the Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner, provided oral testimony. Jim Pledger, representing the Savings and Loan Department, provided oral testimony. Elliott McConnell, representing the Department of Licensing and Regulation, provided oral testimony. Henry Molina, representing the Department of Licensing and Regulation, provided oral testimony. Patrice Nance, representing the Department of Licensing and Regulation, provided oral testimony. Tommy Smith, representing the Department of Licensing and Regulation, registered as a resource witness but did not testify. Rachelle Martin, representing the Department of Licensing and Regulation, registered as a resource witness but did not testify. Chairwoman Nelson announced that the next hearing will focus on Article II agencies and is scheduled for February 18-19, 1998. There being no further business, at 11:00 a.m., Senator West made a motion to stand in recess until February 18, 1998.
