         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on  
         Jurisprudence was held on Friday, February 13, 1998 in the  
         Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas.

         The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:05 am.  There  
         being a quorum present, the following business was transacted.   
          
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:   
         none. 
          
         The Committee agreed the next meeting of the Senate  
         Jurisprudence Committee would next meet on March 26 in San  
         Antonio. 
          
         Joseph Callier, representing Texas Judicial Council, Committee  
         on Judicial Selection, testified on judicial selection. 
         David Van Os, representing self, testified on judicial  
         selection. 
         Robert Alton Jones, representing self, testified on judicial  
         selection. 
          
         A brief discussion followed. 
          
         At 11:00 am Senator Luna assumed the chair. 
          
         At 11:10 am Senator Ellis resumed the chair. 
          
         There being no further business, at 11:30 am Senator Ellis  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
