MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON NOMINATIONS Monday, May 5, 1997 2:00 pm Capitol Extension, Room E1.016 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations was held on Monday, May 5, 1997 in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.016, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Frank Madla Senator Florence Shapiro Senator Gonzalo Barrientos Senator Drew Nixon Senator J.E. Brown Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. Senator Tom Haywood ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm. The Chair laid out the name of the nominee for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Senator Barrientos introduced nominee, Allan Shivers, Jr. The Chair laid out the names of the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Senator Patterson introduced nominee, Norwood Knight-Richardson. Senator Shapleigh introduced nominee, Hector Delgado. Senators Madla and Truan introduced nominee, Rolland C. Allen. The Chair introduced nominee, Beverly Barron. The Chair introduced nominee, Dorothy Grasty. The Chair introduced nominee, James C. Oberwetter. At 2:55 pm, Senator Gallegos moved to consider and report to the Senate with the recommendation that the nominees for the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug abuse be confirmed. Senator Haywood seconded the motion. The motion carried with a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. At 2:56 pm, Senator Haywood moved to consider and report to the Senate with the recommendation that the nominee for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission be confirmed. Senator Gallegos seconded the motion. The motion carried with a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. The Chair laid out the name of the nominee for the Texas Cosmetology Commission. Senator Lindsay introduced nominee, Brian P. King. There not being a quorum present, the Chair left the nominee for the Texas Cosmetology Commission, as well as those nominees not appearing, pending until May 12, 1997 at 2:00 pm. Without objection, it was so ordered. There being no further business, at 3:55 pm Senator Madla moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
