Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Criminal
Justice was held on Tuesday, April 8, 1997 in the Capitol
Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:10 am. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted.

The Chair addressed pending business.
SB 1156 by Whitmire
Senator Shapleigh moved that SB 1156 as amended be reported
favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it
do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 5
ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent.
The Chair requested unanimous consent to show Senators Duncan
and Shapiro voting aye on SB 1156 as amended pursuant to
written request. This was granted without objection.
The final vote on SB 1156 as amended was 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0
present not voting, and 0 absent.
Senator West moved that the bill be recommended for placement

The Chair laid out SB 68 and recognized the author, Senator
Moncrief, to explain the bill.
The chair called for public testimony, there being none,

The Chair laid out SB 550 and recognized the author, Senator

the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Senator West

it was so ordered.
