MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS, TRADE & TECHNOLOGY Wednesday, January 22, 1997 1:00 pm Capitol Extension, Capitol Extension E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Trade & Technology was held on Wednesday, January 22, 1997 in Capitol Extension E1.028 at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Carlos F. Truan, Chairman Senator District 5 Senator John Carona, Vice-Chairman Senator Kenneth Armbrister Senator Teel Bivins Senator Jon Lindsay Senator Bill Ratliff Senator Eliot Shapleigh Senator David Sibley ***** Chairman Truan called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted. Chairman Truan recognized W. Arthur "Skip" Porter, President of the Houston Advanced Research Center, to address the Committee regarding the role of the new Governor's Science and Technology Council in developing technology initiatives and public/private partnerships. A discussion followed. The Chair then recognized Dr. Robert Sullivan, Director of the IC Institute at the University of Texas at Austin, to also address the Committee regarding technology issues. A discussion followed. All witnesses testifying and registering to speak before the Committee are shown on the attached list. Chairman Truan recognized Jimmy Glotfelty, attending on behalf of the Governor's Policy Office, but Mr. Glotfelty did not testify. There being no further business, at 1:46 p.m. Senator Lindsay moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
