         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim Committee on  
         Public Information was held on Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at  
         the El Paso City Council Chamber, 2 Civic Center Plaza, El  
         Paso, Texas.

              The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:10 a.m.   
         There being a quorum present, the following business was  
         transacted.   
          
              The committee heard invited testimony on SB 1069 (75th  
         Legislative Session) and related matters. 
          
              The committee heard invited testimony regarding  
         accessibility to public records and circumvention of the  
         Public Information Act's requirements. 
          
              The committee heard invited testimony on the role of  
         technology as it applies to the Public Information Act. 
          
              At 12:05 p.m. the committee recessed for lunch and  
         reconvened at 1:15 p.m. 
          
              The committee heard public testimony on the judicial  
         records exception to the Public Information Act. 
          
              The committee heard public testimony on the committee  
         charges. 
          
              There being no further business, at 2:23 p.m. Chairman  
         Wentworth announced that without objection the committee would  
         stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
