Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim Committee on
Housing was held on Thursday, May 14, 1998 at Corpus Christi
Council Chambers, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:40 pm.

Chairman Lucio gave opening remarks.
Chairman Lucio recognized the following witnesses:
Neal, Loyd, representing the City of Corpus Christi, gave
opening remarks and testified on the interim charge.
Borchard, Richard, representing Nueces County, gave opening
remarks and testified on the interim charge.
At 2:00 pm Senator Truan assumed the chair.
Manley, Larry Paul, representing TDHCA, testified on the
interim charge.
At 2:10 pm Chairman Lucio resumed the chair.
Oliver, Esther, representing Congressman Solomon, testified on
the interim charge.
Utter, Tom, representing the City of Corpus Christi, testified
on the interim charge.
Alonzo, Abel, representing self, testified on the interim
charge.
Potashnik, Brian, representing Southwest Housing Development,
testified on the interim charge.
Vasquez, Elias, representing Nueces County, testified on the
interim charge.
Coleman, Lena, representing Lena's Business Management and
Housing Consultants, testified on the interim charge.
Botella, Steven, representing Nueces National Bank, testified
on the interim charge.
At 4:10 pm Senator Truan assumed the chair.
At 4:15 pm Chairman Lucio resumed the chair.
De La Cruz, Victor G., representing Corpus Christi Housing
Authority, testified on the interim charge.
Garza, Maria Luisa, representing Gulf Coast Council of La
Raza, testified on the interim charge.
Trejo, Delma, representing Dale Cumberland, testified on the
interim charge.
Bushell, Gary, representing Greater Corpus Christi Business
Alliance, testified on the interim charge.
Summerlin, Errol, representing Coastal Bend Legal Services,
testified on the interim charge.
A brief discussion followed.
Chairman Lucio recognized the following witnesses who

Chairman Lucio closed public testimony.
Chairman Lucio announced that the committee will meet again in
Austin. The date was not announced. There being no further
business, at 5:30 pm Senator Truan moved that the Committee
stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without
objection, it was so ordered.
