         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim Committee on  
         Funding Issues in Education was held on Thursday, January 8,  
         1998 in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

         [Co-Chairmen Bivins and Ratliff decided that Senator Bivins  
         would Chair this hearing.  Hereinafter "Chair" refers to  
         Senator Bivins, or to whomever he has handed the gavel.] 
           
         The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:10 am.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.

         There being no further business, at 1:04 pm Senator Bivins  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
