HBA-TYH H.B. 622 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisH.B. 622 By: Dukes Insurance 2/8/1999 Introduced BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Insurance fraud is expensive for insurance companies, consumers, and the business community. H.B. 622 facilitates the detection of insurance fraud by allowing insurance companies to share data within the industry regarding their investigations of insurance fraud. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 6(a), Article 1.10D, Insurance Code, by including a special investigation unit of an insurer or an employee of an insurer who is responsible for the investigation of suspected fraudulent insurance acts in a list of entities to which a person may provide reports and information so as to be exempt from liability based on filing reports or furnishing other information concerning suspected, anticipated, or completed fraudulent insurance. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
