SRC-AXB H.B. 1840 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 1840 By: Uher (Brown) Higher Education 4/16/1999 Engrossed DIGEST Currently, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center wishes to provide for long term expansion necessary for the achievement of its mission to provide clinical support facilities, experimental treatment facilities, and auxiliary enterprises. H.B. 1840 authorizes the board of regents of the University of Texas System to acquire certain properties for campus expansion or other university purposes. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 1840 sets forth provisions for the purchase of real property located in Harris County by the University of Texas System. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Authorizes the board of regents of the University of Texas System to acquire by purchase, exchange, gift, or in any other manner, for campus expansion or other university purposes, certain real property located in Harris County and not already acquired by the board of regents. Sets forth legal description of the property. SECTION 2. Sets forth provisions for the sale of United States property and purchase by The University of Texas System. Sets forth property to which this section applies. SECTION 3. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
