DIGEST

Currently, the 84th Judicial District covers Hansford, Ochiltree, and
Hutchinson counties. Until 1993, the court provided its own bailiff and
the counties paid a proportionate share of the expenses. In 1993, the
Ochiltree County commissioners court began providing a deputy sheriff to
serve as the bailiff, but the court continued to provide a bailiff for
Hansford and Hutchinson counties. H.B. 1921 would authorize the judge in
the 84th Judicial District to appoint a bailiff.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 1921 establishes a bailiff for certain counties in the
84th Judicial District.

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
