Many counties wish to utilize correctional officers as part-time temporary jailers, but the training requirements are often prohibitively time consuming. H.B. 2971 exempts certain correctional officers from training requirements when seeking part-time employment as a county jailer. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 2971 exempts certain correctional officers from training requirements when seeking part-time employment as a county jailer. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 415.054, Government Code, by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d), to exempt certain potential part-time county jailers from a requirement to complete the training requirements of this section, under the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's guidelines.
