SRC-JXG H.C.R. 80 76(R)BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research CenterH.C.R. 80 76R5731 NBH-DBy: Turner, Bob (Madla) Administration 4/13/1999 Committee Report (Amended) DIGEST The year 1998 marked the 100th anniversary of the Southwest Texas Telephone Company (SWTTC) founded in 1898 by Street Gilmer to provide telephone service between Rocksprings and Kerrville. Today, however, SWTTC provides service to approximately 3,500 customers. The area served by SWTTC covers some 3,600 square miles and includes the counties of Bandera, Edwards, Kinney, Medina, Real, Uvalde, and Val Verde. SWTTC provides state-of-the-art digital switching, fiberoptic transmission facilities, and a level of service and option available in metropolitan regions of the state. SWTTC remains a family-owned business since its inception more than a century ago, and as small businesses of this caliber are vital to the booming economy of the Lone Star State, it is important to honor SWTTC. PURPOSE As proposed, H.C.R. 80 submits the following resolutions: That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Southwest Texas Telephone Company (SWTTC) for 100 years of service to the rural Texas Hill Country, and extends to its owners and employees sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come. That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for SWTTC as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE CHANGES Amends H.C.R. 80, on page 1, line 9, by striking "Kerr."
