SRC-AXB C.S.H.C.R. 134 76(R)BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research CenterC.S.H.C.R. 134 By: Haggerty (Shapleigh) Veterans Affairs 5/7/1999 Committee Report (Substituted) DIGEST Currently, four sites have been selected by the Veterans' Land Board for the creation of state-owned veterans homes. Such homes are funded on a matching-fund basis by the federal government, and are intended to provide affordable, quality care. Because of Texas' growing aged veteran population, several additional regions will soon need facilities to serve the veterans in their area. Veterans who reside in El Paso County will have to travel over 300 miles to reach the closest long-term care facility, and Texas will need 42 veterans homes to meet projected long-term care demands. C.S.H.C.R. 134 urges the Veterans' Land Board to request funding from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for future construction of veterans homes throughout the State of Texas. PURPOSE As proposed, C.S.H.C.R. 134 submits the following resolutions: That the 76th Legislature urge the Veterans' Land Board to request funding from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for future construction of veterans homes throughout the State of Texas. That the secretary of state forward an official copy of this resolution to the chairman and members of the Veterans' Land Board.
