DIGEST

Currently, a member of the Texas Legislature is authorized to represent
clients in contested cases before a state agency, perform administrative
duties, and file documents on behalf of a client. This bill would prohibit
representation for compensation by a member of the legislature, by removing
an exception allowing a member to perform such duties.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 123 removes exceptions allowing a member of the
legislature to receive compensation for representing another person before
a state agency.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.
