SRC-ARR S.B. 204 76(R)BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research CenterS.B. 204 By: Carona Intergovernmental Relations 6/25/1999 Enrolled DIGEST Currently, Texas law authorizes the county sheriff, a deputy sheriff, or a juvenile probation officer to travel on the reduced airfare contract provided to state employees traveling on official business. S.B. 204 will authorize any county official or employee traveling on official county business to qualify for the state's reduced airfare rate. PURPOSE As enrolled, S.B. 204 authorizes county officers and employees to receive reduced airline fare while engaged in official county business. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 2171.055(e), Government Code, to authorize a county officer or employee who is engaged in official county business to participate in the General Services Commission's (commission) contract for travel services for the purpose of obtaining reduced airline fares. Requires the commission to deposit the fees collected under this subsection to the credit of the county airlines fares account. Provides that the county airline fares account is an account in the general revenue fund that may be appropriated only for the purpose of this chapter. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
