DIGEST 

Currently, only  fire departments may hold an examination at different
locations, if each applicant takes the same examination and is examined in
the presence of other applicants. S.B. 212 would authorize the same
provisions for a police department.   

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 212 authorizes entrance examinations for beginning
positions in fire or police departments to be held at certain locations. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 143.025(d), Local Government Code, to authorize
examinations for beginning positions in the fire or police department to be
held at different locations if each applicant takes the same examination
and is examined in the presence of other applicants.  

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999.
                      Makes application of this Act prospective.

SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
