S.B. 217 increases that age requirement to 70 years. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 217 authorizes a person to be excused from jury duty if the person is older than 70 years. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Article 19.25, Code of Criminal Procedure, to authorize a person to be excused from grand jury service if the person is older than 70 years, rather than 65 years. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. Makes application of this Act prospective. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
