DIGEST

Currently, Texas law mandates students who assault another person on school
grounds or at a schoolrelated event to be placed in an alternative
education program. Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily
injury to another does not currently warrant expulsion. This bill would
include assault, by a student against school employees or volunteers, as an
offense punishable by expulsion.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 260 establishes conditions regarding expulsion of a
public school student who assaults a school employee.

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.
