DIGEST

Currently, Texas law establishes a fee of $10 collected by a prosecutor
for collecting and processing a dishonored check in which the face value
does not exceed $100. This bill would change the fee to $10 if the face
amount of the check does not exceed $10, and $15 if the face amount of the
check is greater than $10 but does not exceed $100.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 284 sets forth the fees to be collected by a prosecutor
for collecting and processing a dishonored or forged check or similar sight
order.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.
