This bill would allow machines other than typewriters to be used. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 424 deletes criteria relating to the examination required for certification as a court reporter. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 52.023(b), Government Code, to require an applicant to prepare, rather than type, a transcript of the material taken down as part of the examination for certification as a court reporter. Deletes text authorizing the use of a manual or an electric typewriter. SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
