SRC-AXB S.B. 607 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 607 76R5272 WP-DBy: Fraser Veterans Affairs 2/25/1999 As Filed DIGEST The 75th Legislature established the Strategic Military Planning Commission (SMPC) to develop a pro-active statewide strategy to prevent future defense closures and realignments. The SMPC developed a master plan as a starting point for accomplishing these goals. A careful study of defense-related work in Texas will indicate the emergence of new high-tech opportunities. Maintenance of a database of contractors who perform such work could lead to a review which would retain and attract additional defense-related business to Texas. S.B. 607 is a recommendation from the master plan, and would require the Office of Defense Affairs to develop and maintain a database of certain contractors who perform defense-related work in this state. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 607 requires the Office of Defense Affairs to develop and maintain a database of all prime contractors and subcontractors who perform defense-related work in Texas RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1.
