SRC-AXB S.B. 637 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 637 By: Brown State Affairs 3/2/1999 As Filed DIGEST Currently, Section 51.9335, Education Code enabling medical and dental units to acquire necessary goods and services by following "best value" standards is slated to expire September 1, 1999. Since enactment of that law, increased management efficiency and flexibility through freedom from regulation has been achieved, resulting in a savings of both time and money. S.B. 637 repeals the expiration date of this law. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 637 repeals the subsection of a law naming September 1, 1999 as the expiration date of the law relating to the acquisition of goods and services by certain medical and dental units. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Repealer: Subsection (f), Section 51.9335, Education Code, regarding the expiration date of a law relating to the acquisition of goods and services. SECTION 2.Emergency clause. Effective date: 90 days after adjournment.
