DIGEST

Currently, Texas law authorizes The University of Texas System to levy a
student union fee not to exceed $30 per student for each regular semester
and $15 per student for each term of the summer session for purposes of
maintaining and operating a student union building at The University of
Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The summer program has since changed and is now
one "long" summer session. S.B. 746 would increase the maximum student
union fee for summer sessions exceeding nine weeks to $30, and continue to
charge a maximum $15 fee for students enrolled in a summer session of less
than nine weeks.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 746 establishes student union fees at The University of
Texas at El Paso during summer sessions.
