DIGEST

Currently, under Texas law, upon election to the office of county
treasurer, a newly elected treasurer must post a bond within 20 days after
the certificate of the election is received. However, this deadline
expires prior to the newly elected treasurer taking office, resulting in
the treasurer-elect being required to pay for the bond out of personal
funds. This bill requires the county treasurer to post the bond before
performing the duties of office.

PURPOSE

As enrolled, S.B. 778 requires a county treasurer to execute a bond before
performing the duties of office.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.
