Notice is only required to be given once every twelve weeks regarding a student's performance in each class or subject. S.B. 858 will establish written notice to certain parents of a public school student's unsatisfactory performance. PURPOSE As enrolled, S.B. 858 establishes written notice to certain parents of a public school student's unsatisfactory performance. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Sections 28.022(a) and (b), Education Code, to require the board of trustees of each school district to adopt a policy that will include a requirement for the district, at least once every three weeks, or during the fourth week of each nine-week grading period, to give written notice to a parent or legal guardian of a student's consistent unsatisfactory performance in a subject included in the foundation curriculum. Makes conforming changes. SECTION 2. Provides that this Act applies beginning with the 1999-2000 school year. SECTION 3. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
