SRC-JBJ S.B. 997 76(R)BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research CenterS.B. 997 By: Cain Infrastructure 7/27/1999 Enrolled DIGEST Currently, the Texas Department of Transportation charges a $10 fee for special license plates to veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. To curb the cost to the veterans, S.B. 997 will deletes the required fee for obtaining the special license plates for veterans. PURPOSE As enrolled, S.B. 997 deletes certain provisions relating to fees for certain veteran special license plates. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Sections 502.262 through 502.265, Transportation Code, as follows: to delete a provision requiring the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to charge a fee for certain special license plates, prescribed by certain sections, and to send 50 cents of each fee collected to the respective county treasurer. Deletes text requiring the county treasurer to credit the money. Deletes a provision that sets the fees for the license plates. Makes conforming changes. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. Makes application of this Act prospective. SECTION 3.Emergency clause.
