SRC-AXB S.B. 1007 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1007 By: Wentworth Jurisprudence 3/17/1999 As Filed DIGEST Currently, existing law regulating a statutory probate court's authority to hire appropriate staff is limited by a county population specification of one million or more. Appropriate staffing of a court coordinator, an administrative assistant, and an auditor, is an important factor in a statutory probate court's successful performance of duties. This bill would delete the county population qualification for hiring such individuals, and requires their hiring by the judge of a statutory probate court. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1007 requires, rather than authorizes, a statutory probate court judge to hire persons for certain positions. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 25.0024(a), Government Code, to require, rather than authorize, a statutory probate court judge to perform hirings to certain positions. Deletes a population specification for a judge's authority to perform the hirings. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999.
